Introduction
John Wick is a neo-noir action thriller franchise that was created by Derek Kolstad, which consists of action thriller films written by Kolstad, directed by Chad Stahelski and distributed by Summit Entertainment. Keanu Reeves stars as the eponymous character, a retired but deadly hitman seeking vengeance.
Biography
The series began in 2014 with the release of John Wick. It was followed by two sequels; Chapter 2, which was released in 2017 and Chapter 3 – Parabellum that was released on May 17, 2019. The three films were successful both critically and commercially. Chapter 4 is set for release on May 21, 2021.
John Wick (aka Jardani Jovonovich), the Boogeyman (aka Baba Yaga), is an orphan Belarussian Ruska Roma, who was brought up as an assassin. At the start of the first film, he had been inactive for five years, having retired from the Tarasov Russian Mafia. He is played by Keanu Reeves in the film series.
The character and franchise has been described as a “central boogeyman character who can’t be killed” and a “modern, action-oriented equivalent of ’80s horror franchises”, and is reported to have a kill count of 306, exceeding Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers combined. His violent one-man crusade has been described as an extreme case of workplace revenge.
