The Witcher is an upcoming American-Polish fantasy drama TV series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix. It is based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski. Henry Cavill will play Geralt of Rivia. The series will air in late 2019.
Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
The release date for the Netflix Witcher series is expected to be around the end of this year. With Hissrich leading the project – whose previous work includes The Defenders, Daredevil and The West Wing – expectation are high. The plot of the Netflix Witcher series is based on the original Andrzej Sapkowski novels, not the massive CD Projekt RED game. Netflix describes it as “the Witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.”
